Crafted by our American craftsman from black locust wood grown in the mountains around Charlottesville, Virginia, these clappers rest easily in the hand, and are heavy enough to produce a strong, clear clap. Together with the inkin bell the clappers are used to signal rest and walking periods during meditation. At a Zen monastery they are used in various ways, including to begin and end silent meals and to call everybody to the meditation hall.
