A great Strongtek Balance pad product with many useful fitness applications
Strongtek makes good low tech fitness products so I was looking forward to receiving this balance pad (knee pads, crash pad). This is a soft and very comfortable and cushioning pad. As the instructions list it can be used for various physical therapy purposes such as balance improvement. For exercise and fitness purposes it can do a lot of things. In yoga it packable, and you could substitute it for a yoga blanket, especially for kneeling positions are positions where tight ankles need padding. One can buy dedicated small piece knee pads (in a pair) that are placed on the floor for yoga practice. However, these require accurate placement ( and replacement) on the mat, so the wider area of this pad allows for more freedom. The wider size also makes it useful for yoga positions where the elbows are directly on the mat (sphinx) , but some cushioning is desired. The strongtek instructions say that the instability of the mat can be used to improve proprioception. I agree, but would only caution that it be used for that purposes (such as in warrior III) after the pose has been mastered (not while learning to get into the full pose). I list this as a crash pad. What I mean is that when learning some inverted positions such as crow, the size of this pad makes it more useful than a soft block if one loses balance and your head slowly and gently rocks into the floor. For inversions where there is a transition for example from tripod headstand up into one legged crow, this pad will be helpful for a gentle “crash” when learning and your strength and balance are not assured. I find this pad to be good for toe, ankle, and plantar fascia stretching. I show this 2 inch pad with a 1/25 inch fitness strap draped on it. Outside of a fitness setting, this mat is more square than the kneeling pads sold for gardeners’ use. But, it is twice as thick! And the thickness means it can also be used to sit on while in the garden. Also, it is about the size of a large stadium chair minus, the back, so it will keep you comfortable in cold outdoor seating or when on concrete.

This mat is perfect for my knees! After having bilateral knee replacements, I was worried about kneeling for my daily prayers, but this mat is incredibly comfortable and provides the support I need.
This foam pad is great! My exercises that required me to kneel were getting hard to do. This pad solved that problem. I can now get up and down without hurting my knees. Good value for the money
